Wy’east Artisans Guild April events

Menagerie, an art show focusing on people, animals and collections, opens Thursday April 5 at 6:45 with a reception at the Sandy Actors Theatre.  Members of the Wy’east Artisans Guild present their artwork, in a variety of media, for this visually diverse exhibit. For the opening, artists will be on hand to describe the art and answer questions. Afterward, attendees are invited to stay for a full-length, preview performance of A Barrel Full of Pennies, a play by John Patrick.

This zany comedy revolves around a lovably outrageous family with a penchant for taking in all the stray dogs, ducks, birds and people who cross their path.  The Menagerie theme of the artwork reflects the menagerie that this eclectic family has put together. Join the artists and actors for an enjoyable evening of entertainment.

No admission charge for the April 5 event, all donations going to benefit Wy’east Artisans Guild’s community programs.  Menagerie will be on display, in the lobby of the theater through the run of the play, April 6-29. This venue is now handicap accessible. Sandy Actors Theatre is located behind the Ace Hardware at 39181 Pioneer Blvd.

Photography for the artist will be the topic of discussion at the Monday, April 9, meeting of the Wy’east Artisans Guild.  Rod Stroh will help attendees better understand their camera, various ways to photograph artwork or other items and give an overview of how to use post-processing programs to enhance photos.

This free public program will be in the Clackamas County Bank Theater, just west of the main bank entrance, at 38963 Proctor Blvd. The doors open at 6:30pm, program at 7:00pm.

Wy’east presents library art

The art show, “What I’ve Read…” presented by Wy’east Artisans Guild, may be viewed from April 27-June 10 in the newly renovated Sandy Public Library.

Please join us for a reception on Saturday April 28, from 3-4:45 at the library. Beginning at 3:30 pm, the artists will walk around the exhibit, talking about the inspiration for their work and their techniques. Refreshments, an art show, and a look at the new library all come together to make a pleasant afternoon.

The Wy’east Artisans Guild is a diverse group of art lovers, both amateur and professional, who look to the guild for inspiration and the opportunity to further themselves as artists.

Working closely with Sandy Actors Theatre and Sandy Public Library, Guild members have six art shows each year: five at the theater and one spring show at the library.

Free and open to the public, the Guild also sponsors an art- related program at the Sandy Clackamas County Bank on the second Monday of the month, eight months of the year.

Other programs include Kids Outreach (where artists go into the schools to create lasting treasures with the children, while reinforcing other important lessons) and their Solace in Silk program, which donates hand-painted scarves to chemo-patients.

During the summer the Guild has workshops, classes, field-trips and social gatherings where they network together. For more information, call Becky Hawley (503) 668-5590 or visit: wyeastartisansguild.com.
